Cidra mayor Delvis J. Pagán Clavijo says the town’s main challenge is the drought, with its lake water supplies in the AAA’s the Adjustments band. He said the municipality has a plan with the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) to mitigate the drought at priority sites such as elderly centers, care facilities, the hospital, municipal service locations, and vulnerable residents including the bedridden and disabled.

Measures include a social media and sound-truck education campaign on water use, working with the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) to identify leaks across town and assist repairs, a non-potable well for ornamental and cleaning work, and five water tanker trucks identified for distribution to special areas if the drought worsens. His top project this year is rehabilitating the urban center: work has begun on Francisco M. Zeno Public Plaza, and the old mayor’s office will become a museum of culture and a mayoral service center, with expanded public parking.

He estimates completion in one year to one year and three months. His biggest achievement this term was signing the Municipal Police academy: after 25 years without one and with only 5 officers (two sergeants, three police), 10 cadets who signed with the town begin training August 3, finish in December, and bring the force to 15 officers.

The town also has a Municipal Security Center with over 200 cameras and a 24/7 monitoring center.
