The Puerto Rico Land Administration announced that the General Services Administration (ASG) Bidding Board awarded the $7.8 million reconstruction of the Hotel Baños de Coamo in Coamo, Puerto Rico. The work covers repair, rehabilitation and overall improvement of the facilities: demolition and construction, masonry, concrete, roof replacement and waterproofing, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, doors and windows, painting, finishes and exterior work.

FEMA allocated $3,998,011.51 for the project, of which COR3 (the Puerto Rico recovery office) has already disbursed $899,553. The project will be financed with combined FEMA allocations and the agency’s own funds. The selected proposal came from Bella Sofia Contractors Inc., which was the lowest-cost bid and earned the highest score in the ASG evaluation.

Criteria included past performance, financial and technical capacity, delivery time, warranty and price. Land Administration executive director Irmaris Vicenty Berríos called the award a decisive step toward restoring a public property with historic, tourism and economic potential, and said the rehabilitation will promote hiring of services, purchase of materials and job creation in the central region.

COR3 executive director María L. Marín Colón said her team has provided technical assistance and ongoing follow-up and will keep coordinating with the subrecipient so the federal funds translate into renewed infrastructure. Before the contract is formally granted, the company must submit performance and payment bonds and meet all required certifications. The Land Administration will keep monitoring the process.
