Southerly winds will bring a rainy Monday afternoon to parts of Puerto Rico’s interior, east and west, along with hot conditions in low-lying and urban areas, according to National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist Cecille Villanueva. Showers were reported Monday morning, but activity will intensify in the afternoon, especially across the interior, east, west and northwest.

Villanueva said the rain coverage will fluctuate and will not be as widespread as Saturday’s. The wet conditions are expected to persist over the coming days due to current moisture and instability. Although the NWS will not issue a heat advisory Monday, heat index values are expected to climb above 100 degrees in some low and urban areas; Villanueva noted these are localized spots, particularly urban areas and low valleys, where indices could be even higher than normal.

The heat risk will rise from Tuesday through Wednesday, and a heat advisory could be issued for those days. Meanwhile, maritime conditions remain favorable, and the NWS reported no significant hazards for Monday beyond moderate rip currents along Puerto Rico’s north coast.
