The weather in Puerto Rico will continue to be marked by intense heat, easterly winds, and high concentrations of Sahara dust, according to the National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan. A high-pressure system in the Atlantic will maintain windy conditions for the rest of the week, with stronger-than-usual winds for this time of year. Although a tropical wave will increase humidity over the region, most of its rainfall will remain over the Caribbean waters.
However, some of this humidity could lead to cloudy skies and brief showers, especially in the afternoons. The SNM warned that the humidity associated with the tropical wave will increase the possibility of isolated showers, particularly in the interior, west, and northwest of Puerto Rico. A notable phenomenon in the coming days will be the arrival of a Sahara air layer, which will increase the presence of dust in the atmosphere, reducing visibility and affecting air quality.
The SNM advised people with respiratory conditions to follow medical recommendations during this period. The heat will also be a significant factor, with the heat index potentially exceeding 108 degrees Fahrenheit, maintaining a high risk of heat-related conditions.
