This 4th of July, Puerto Rico will experience a mix of heat, Sahara dust, and dry conditions, according to meteorologist Carlos Anselmi from the Servicio Nacional de Meteorología (SNM). A mass of dry air associated with the entry of Sahara dust will dominate the weather, with concentrations fluctuating between moderate and high. The peak of the event is expected in the afternoon, which could deteriorate air quality.
Anselmi recommended that vulnerable individuals, especially those with respiratory conditions, follow their doctors' recommendations and take precautions when staying outdoors for extended periods. Although dry air is expected, some showers may occur in the west and mountainous areas of the island. However, no significant rain is expected during the day.
At night, when people may be watching fireworks or participating in activities with pyrotechnics, the northern part of the island is expected to remain stable, but coastal areas in the east and south may experience some brief showers. Anselmi also warned about the use of pyrotechnics and barbecues due to the dry conditions, as a single spark could cause fires that spread quickly and put residences and lives at risk. Temperatures will remain hot, and the SNM is monitoring the conditions closely.
