Wendy's Puerto Rico has been named the company's Best International Market for 2026, earning global recognition for its business growth, operational performance, workforce development and marketing strategies tailored to the Puerto Rican market. The award was presented at Wendy's 2026 International Franchise Convention in Las Vegas, where Puerto Rico competed within an international network of more than 1,200 restaurants across 32 countries.

It is the second time the local operation has received the distinction. Grupo Colón Gerena, which has operated the Wendy's franchise in Puerto Rico for 47 years, oversees the island's business. Chief Executive Jorge Colón Gerena said the recognition reflects the organization's investment in its workforce, operational execution and continued expansion.

According to the company, Wendy's Puerto Rico has more than doubled its restaurant footprint over the past two decades, growing from approximately 40 locations to 85, and currently employs more than 3,000 people. The franchise plans to open 10 additional restaurants over the coming years as part of a broader strategy to expand its presence across the island, though the company did not disclose a specific opening schedule or investment amount.

Employee development was another factor cited in the award: Wendy's Puerto Rico reported 196 internal promotions over the past two years. The company said its approach includes structured talent planning, mentoring and career pathways intended to prepare employees for leadership positions.
