La Plata: down 12 cm
La Plata kept sliding. This morning’s chart puts it at 42.40 meters, down 12 centimeters from yesterday, in the Adjustments band (Ajustes). The next line on the chart, into the Control band, sits at 40.50 meters, 1.90 meters below this morning’s reading. Outlook
What the numbers say
The week’s pattern is a split. Carraízo (reservoir 1) and La Plata are both falling faster than they were the week before, while Cidra is effectively flat. La Plata is the one to watch: it has dropped six mornings in a row and is losing 11 cm a day, well above the 8.3 cm a day of the prior week. Carraízo’s slide is smaller but also speeding up, from 1.3 cm a day to 2.5.
Rain did little to change this. Cidra caught 4.06 inches across its gauges and still barely moved, and the morning after Carraízo’s wettest day its level fell 4 cm. La Plata’s nearby gauges recorded no rain at all. At this week’s pace, La Plata would reach the Control line in about 17 days, around November 14, and Carraízo would reach the Watch line in about 41 days, around December 8. That is arithmetic at current rates, not a forecast, and a rainy stretch or a change in the pace would move both dates.
What to watch
- La Plata: the Control line is inside three weeks at this pace; a band change there would be the next real news.
- La Plata: rain. With none this week, the decline is pure demand, and the first wet afternoon over the watershed shows up in the next morning’s number.
- Naranjito: whether AAA extends its Cedro Arriba plan (the calendar runs through October 31), changes the phase or ends it.
Lake levels
The gauge USGS runs at Carraízo read 40.73 meters at 5:45 AM. The gauge USGS runs at La Plata read 42.38 meters at 5:45 AM. The gauge USGS runs at Cidra read 400.60 meters at 5:45 AM.
The gauges report every quarter hour and their readings are provisional; the bands are measured on AAA’s 5:00 chart.
How we read the data
This is the 70th Daily Water Watch (yesterday’s is here). The levels update every morning on the water page.
Levels: AAA’s daily reservoir chart, October 27. Rain: gauges USGS runs within 12 km of each reservoir. Day counts start August 7, when the metro rotation took effect. Straight-line dates are arithmetic, not forecasts. How we report.
