Ciales is a town and municipality in Puerto Rico's North region, situated inland on the Central Mountain Range about 26 miles from San Juan. It lies northwest of Orocovis, south of Florida and Manatí, east of Utuado and Jayuya, and west of Morovis, and is organized into eight barrios plus Ciales Pueblo, covering an area of 172.17 km² with a population of approximately 16,984 as of 2020.
Founded in 1820, Ciales occupies a mountainous inland position yet is officially part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area, linking it administratively to the capital region despite its rural setting. Its location surrounded by several neighboring municipalities places it at a crossroads within the island's central highlands.
