Puerto Rico This Weekend: One Event, Two Patron-Saint Fiestas and Dive at Mayagüez

Published Oct 2, 2026 · 787 Daily · Original analysis

Saturday looks good for diving at Mayagüez — the pick of the weekend. One event is on across the island this weekend, in Aguada. The sun is up at 6:15 AM and down at 6:12 PM.

The forecast for the west coast is the one worth planning around. Mayagüez has the best window of the weekend for diving, with calm 1.7 ft seas on Saturday and good visibility likely, and Sunday looks much the same. For something with a little more motion, the Northwest has surf at Aguadilla / Crash Boat, where a 9-second swell meets a light offshore wind both days. Culebra / Flamenco Beach is also showing surf on a shorter swell with a moderate cross-shore breeze. These are forecast windows, not readings from the water, so treat them as a good bet rather than a promise.

The one scheduled event is on Sunday in Aguada, where the fiesta patronal for Saint Francis of Assisi puts the town in festival mode, and it sits just up the coast from Mayagüez, so a morning dive and an afternoon in the plaza fit together. Yabucoa’s Guardian Angels feast day falls on Friday, if you’re starting the weekend early. If the day turns to thunderstorms, as the forecast suggests for much of the island, the Museo de Arte de Ponce is an easy indoor plan, and Cocina Abierta in Condado or La Revuelta Beer Garden in Caguas, with its craft beers under the mango tree, make for a good evening. For a longer trip, Vieques has Playa Esperanza and the climb up Monte Pirata, and Culebra Divers is there for anyone heading out to the islands.

Fiestas

Yabucoa keeps Guardian Angels on October 2 and Aguada keeps Saint Francis of Assisi on October 4. A town’s fiestas patronales usually run the days around the feast and move the biggest nights to the nearest weekend, so the date is the anchor rather than the whole of it.

The same weekend, with every event and every scored spot, is on the weekend page.
